About Jeffrey Butler

Thriller & suspense stories driven by atmosphere, psychology, and the shadows we carry.

About

I was born on an army base in Weisbaden, Germany and subsequently raised on the New Jersey shore. After graduating from Cornell University, I went to work in hospitality management and began writing as a hobby. I now live with my wife and three children in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of upstate New York.

Bait is the second Harper Jones book in a planned series of novels that take place in the seaside town of Wolf Hollow and will be releasing June 8th, 2026.

Writing Influences

Growing up as a teenager in the 80s, I found myself drawn to playing Dungeons and Dragons. Fighting imaginary monsters, following dangerous quests, and creating fictional and fantastical worlds and characters became a near-fanatical hobby, one that would feed my imagination and eventually provide the seeds for my growth as an author.

As I grew older, my interests evolved from gameplay to reading, and I homed in on fictional thrillers, legal odysseys, and crime procedurals as genres of choice. Authors such as Robert Ludlum, Scott Turow, James Patterson, and Nelson DeMille were often names found on my bedside nightstand. Inevitably, my voracious reading combined with my active imagination, which ultimately resulted in my first book, Torment — A Harper Jones Novel, and thus an author was born.
